Notes: After my mom's visit a few weeks ago, we were faced with an almost full tray of jalapeno peppers. Not wanting to be wasteful, I thought about what we could make with them. Enter homemade jalapeno hot sauce that keeps for about 6 months in the refrigerator. Problem solved!
I would also recommend using gloves or covering your hand with a plastic bag when working with the peppers. Otherwise, the oil from the peppers can transfer to your skin, which feels hot! (Am I speaking from experience?) | |
Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil 10-15 jalapeno peppers, sliced 2 cloves garlic 1/2 onion, diced 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 - 3/4 cup water 1/4 cup white vinegar |
Instructions:
1. Depending on how much heat you want, either remove the rib and seeds from the jalapenos or leave them in (we removed half).
2. Add olive oil to a pan on medium-high heat, then add peppers, garlic, and onion and saute for 4 minutes. 3. Add the water and cook for another 20 minutes, stirring often. 4. Remove from heat, and allow mixture to cool to room temperature. 5. Blend the mixture in a blender or use an immersion blender and puree until smooth. Slowly add the vinegar until desired consistency. 6. Store with a tight lid in the refrigerator. |
